E.T - THE EXTRA TERRESTRIAL

Tenho-me sentido tão confortável no cenário.
Tenho sido encontrada.
- Onde estiveste todo este tempo?
- Aqui – respondo eu!

Estender a mão e acenar dizendo “Estou Aqui!”

Ficou no coração.

AMOR.

E.T. – THE EXTRA TERRESTRIAL

The alchemist is getting closer and closer of discovering the alchemic secret of his life.

It has been a fantastic year, full of peaceful feelings and enlightening deep knowledge and experiences. Full of Directed Actions.

I’ve been feeling the world around me as just scenery where I can become the Director and change it, or interact and relate to the others as I please.
I’ve been feeling each step is done with the right foot and takes me in the exact direction I wanted to go.
I’ve been so confortable in this scenery.

I’ve been found.
- Where were you all this time?
- Right here- I answered!
This year I flew with my bicycle just up by the moonlight in encounters with spatial beings with which I started to trace ways to further unknown galaxies. It’s good to make company to your friends on their way home!

I don’t remember if I felt lost in the last journey I’ve made with a group of people… Most of the times I’ve been travelling alone, already lost in departure and found afterwards in different alien sites.
Sometimes during the journey is the alien that visits me!
Sometimes I don’t understand why I never decided to go with him, or why he doesn’t stay with me. After all who’s the extra-terrestrial?

I’ve decided to stop travelling, to stay in a place and allow you to visit me, allow your wish to visit me and ease up your way to my home.
To stop so I could say something to myself I really needed to listen to.
To stop and to listen to the others.
To open all my travel boxes and to open the windows of my house. To take my hand and wave, saying “I’m here!”.

Very early in my life I’ve decided to stop only when I’d know myself better and would know what I wanted to do of my life. For a long time, I’ve touched parallel worlds and felt I could know myself better through it.
I feel I’ve arrived home now!

Nowadays I know I could travel around the world on my own, I could build my life project alone, but the moment of sharing has arrived. Of sharing everything I’ve discovered and all the rest I will discover from now on. The best in life is really all the sharing moments, the synergy and congregation with others.

Now I know I could walk very fast, I could adapt very easily to a new place, but the rhythm of my heart has a softer pace and I recognize it. I want to feel it deeper so that I can appreciate the air I breath, pay attention to the upcoming idea, to the unleashed emotion, to the word I say, to the word I write, but more important to always feel I have all the time to myself, to us.

We all have a piece of that beautiful natural building done by nature which appears when sun and rain come together, like in real life different rays of light show up when we manage a balance between right and wrong. In continuous group development we all have today all the tools we need for the alchemic global process. The first step is to believe in the basic and elemental cell we all bring in ourselves- love- so we can then discover gold on each step we do towards the end of the rainbow.

I still remember the feeling of joy when learning by myself how to tie my boots’ shoe lacers, of experimenting, of not attaching to people, of observing deeply before behaving, of trying to understand different ways of being, of viewing different layers of reality... Today it feels real good to look back and understand why, what for and be able to share these reasons with the world…

I’ve planted a tree, I’ve written a book...

In 1982 I went for the first time to the cinema and this was the first movie I saw. I guess it stayed forever in my heart…

MATRIX - It's not this system. It's another system!

If you're in a hurry, stop!

Time passes so fast between so many opportunities/ choices…

To live time in balance it means to follow our passion. Passion is the single emotion that makes us assume a compromise, by assuming it we discover the meaning of our existence and become responsible & conscious about our life project.

How many people know their passion?
How many people are following it in this exact moment?

We are body, mind, soul, emotions, aura and much more!
With which depth do we know these perspectives of us and what can we make of them? In truth it’s not life that controls us, we control life!

But, which percentage of us is controlled by the system?
Do we live our entire life as agent 421?

The matrix dictates the co-ordinates of infinite possibilities that lead us to the same patterns, that don’t answer to the true needs of the individuals, that do not teach how to think by themselves, how to deal with emotions and how to relate with the others.

Like this, we are all swallowed by a fast rhythm, that makes us work too many hours per day, without having time for family, friends, community, nature, that tires us by its complexity and the pollution, that doesn’t allow us to sleep and rest enough healthy hours, that makes us run from one place to the other, without having the opportunity to make physical exercise, and without hearing the needs of our body, that makes us run to the cheapest supermarket or to the fast food next door to eat goods that already cross the world to arrive there loosing all its nutrition qualities and that are packed in thousand plastic, cans, card, paper, that makes us use the car, the motorbike, the plane only because we have to arrive fast, because we are in a hurry for that compromise.

BUT, HOW MANY HOURS YOU MISS PER DAY?

WHY THAT HURRY? WHAT ARE THAT COMPROMISES THAT MAKE US LOOK WORRIED, IRRITATED AND LOST IN US?

AFTER ALL, WHO AM I?
WHO DO I WANT TO BE?
HOW DO I RELATE WITH THE OTHERS?
WHAT’S MY PLACE IN THIS WORLD?
WHAT CAN I DO TO ENJOY LIFE AS MUCH AS I DO?

To have time is a right!
To think about the gestures we make and the reasons why we make them is a duty ?
When was the last time that you embrace someone? How long you don’t smile? How long you don’t express what you really feel? When was the last time that you remember kissing someone with here & now conscience?

It’s possible to create another system.
“It’s not this system. It’s another system!” Da Weasel.

The consumption booming and material values, manipulated by information that rarely speaks the truth, commanded by the capitalist system.
The perfect circuits made us avoid making certain questions.
-Where does the breakfast cereal packages go after putting it in the trash?
-Why people travel by plane in a small country or in Europe? Do I know what are the effects of thousand daily of planes on the environment?
-Do I need this new t-shirt?
-Why do I pass so many hours in front of a TV, watching soaps when I could be rotating my own movie?
-Do I need this yogurt of tiramisu flavor?
-Do I need this sun lotion for home tanning?
-Why are my emotion dominated by a football match, where each player wins more in a month, more than the common mortal can win in a lifetime and why do I feed this circus, buying t-shirts, autographed balls and choosing eternally to miss other social appointments just to watch a football match?
-Why these pair of shoes are cheaper on a Chinese store?
-Do I need to use my car everyday to go to work?
-When I go shopping why don’t I ask from where this product comes from, from what is made, how is it made and by whom?
-Do I need to download music for free from the Internet?
-Does it make sense to work 8 hours per day in front of a computer?

-Is this what I really want for me?

-Do I need to use messenger to talk with a friend when I can be flesh and blood with the person?

It’s so easy to loose track of what we are, if we don’t stop to ask it to ourselves or if what surrounds us is a part of our essence, of the way we need to express ourselves and the way we live or is it the way of agent 327?

Individualism and virtual communities exist so that the human being can enter in this process of getting to know better who is he, what needs and what really matters.

People can speak about multiculturalism, can learn how to live in intercultural communities, but in the end people just enjoy the folk and create stigmas.
Each individual to become a citizen should be allowed to give its contribution to the community, and that doesn’t depend of his background culture but of the openness and ability that the hosting community has while valorizing its experience and knowledge, instead of questioning who is he, labelling from where it comes from and disable people of truly getting to know the other.

These and other questions about life in our days were raised in the I Congress of Animation, Arts and Therapies, that took place on 19 - 21 April in the beautiful village of Ponte de Lima - Portugal, candidate to Unesco heritage, (Do you know it? I seriously recommended it!), where more than 250 social workers, artists and therapists share experiences and find the potential of joining these forces for the well being of people. .

There’s no informal, non-formal or formal education. There’s Education!
In this way, to be a social animator/youth worker is also to be paying attention to social and political circumstances. It’s not just to develop social competencies in the individual. Complexity and ambiguity of our days, leads us to a need of a more conscious intervention, the political statute needs to be returned to all inhabitants of this planet.

Educate emotions, respect rhythms and health, teach how to share life with the others in a peaceful way, encouraging knowledge, initiative and change energy for resolution of problems and situations that live inside each person. Making believe that to be happy is attitude and it's possible to be happier than we thought. And this is political intervention!

Combination of cure, education and creativity are to me, as non-formal educator the secret for humanization of human beings of the XXI century. To be a non formal educator is much more than these projects with pre defined rules for intervention and predetermined time, it's much more than projects and polite reports on paper that are not solving effectively the social needs of a youngster that lives on a disadvantaged neighborhood and that are not activating a common youngster for a conscious and responsible future.
Youth workers have a stronger potential as agents of peace and change by transforming Inactivity in activity, Unknowledge in knowledge, and Pessimism in Optimism.

How?
-Unblocking the creative process of each individual
-Potencialize social competences that conduct the individual into action. We are not born citizens we become citizens.
-Conducting the individual to a self-knowledge, knowledge of emotions and how to deal with them.

It’s emotion that moves people! The gesture reflects an emotion, but also a personality and its knowledge. A gesture can be objective based in creativity or in knowledge.
By becoming more conscious of the reasons of our emotions and our gestures, we can start a revolution, that revolution that everybody needs in life, that the world and nature are asking for.
A silent revolution that only works with kindness in our hearts, tolerance and trust in us, in the others and gratitude to a greater force that everyday gives us energy to enjoy life, strength to work hard and attentively and intone with the other beings of universe.

“CHANGE YOUR NUMBER, I’VE CHANGED MINE!
CHANGE YOUR WORLD, I’VE CHANGED MINE!”
Dumb worlds- Da weasel

A smile is the only plant that we can seed in our soul that grows into love in our heart.

This is a free revolution! And it already started!

Would you like to live beyond the matrix, without creating a new one?
Make yourself responsible for your part!

MATRIX - NÃO É ESTE SISTEMA É OUTRO SISTEMA
Se tens pressa, pára!

Viver o tempo plenamente significa seguir a nossa paixão.

QUAL É O MEU LUGAR NO MUNDO?

TRAINSPOTTING

CHOOSE LIFE. CHOOSE A JOB. CHOOSE A CAREER. CHOOSE A FAMILY. CHOOSE A FUCKIN BIG TELEVISION. CHOOSE WASHING MACHINES, CARS, COMPACT DISC PLAYERS AND ELECTRICAL TIN OPENERS… CHOOSE DIY AND WONDERING WHO THE FUCK YOU ARE ON A SUNDAY MORNING. CHOOSE SITTING ON THAT COUCH WATCHING MIND-NUMBING, SPIRIT CRUSHING GAME SHOWS, STUFFING JUNK FOOD INTO YOUR MOUTH. CHOOSE ROTTING AWAY AT THE END OF IT ALL, PISHING YOUR LAST IN A MISERABLE HOME, NOTHING MORE THAN AN EMBARRASSMENT TO THE SELFISH, FUCKED UP BRATS YOU SPAWNED TO REPLACE YOURSELF. CHOOSE YOUR FUTURE.CHOOSE LIFE… BUT WHY WOULD I WANT TO DO A THING LIKE THAT?

I remember when I first saw television , it was black and white... in the late 70’s I’d go for holidays to my grandparents countryside house in the Center of Portugal with no bathroom, just a wood house with a hole to use for our basic needs. To wash ourselves we would warm up some water in the stowe, this water was coming from the village’s fountain, there was no electricity in the house and at night we would use some candles or petrol lamps to read, to sow, to play cards, to talk… This was the scenery 7 years after the revolution.
Portugal had a dictator that kept the country undeveloped, forbiding people to think and speak of whatever was different to his ideology. His followers were kick off from the Government 14 months after my birth on the 25th of April 1974.

I remember as a child feeling unconfortable when my teacher would beat us when we did mistakes or knocking with my colleague’s head on the blackboard because he had difficulties to learn and he was the only black person in the classroom!

I remember that the same teacher would discriminate the most intelligent and bright colleagues, also the ones that had more money to buy nice exercise books and pens.
I remember being afraid of asking her to go to the bathroom.
I remember feeling different and alone.
I remember then making friendships with and support the excluded ones. Since then I kept within myself this feeling and concern towards the different people..

I remember being discriminated by other children because I dressed differently as my family didn’t have much money… Sometimes my mother or someone known would do me a dress or a new piece of clothes.

I felt differently allthroughout my adolescence and I didn’t believe in belonging to a group if bellonging would mean to do somethings that i didn’t believe in, just because everybody does it or you look cool to others’ eyes if you do it.
I remember enjoying diversity of friends, of worlds, of knowledge.
I remember being interested in so many different topics that I didn’t felt good enough in any.So I kept on going reasearching people!
I remember not understanding hierarchies and the reasons of its existence.

I remember not understanding formalities.

I remember deciding to start to work with 18 years old so that I could pay my university studies.
I remember analysing and testing people with my appearance, i’d enter in a fancy clothes house wearing jeans with holes and I’d receive a rude treatment if I’d enter in the same shop with formal clothes I’d receive a nice treatment
I remember my silence was sometimes not confortable to others.
I remember that my nonformality was sometimes not confortable to others.
I remember how much the world didn’t notice me but I was happy with that, as we have so many egos playing and stealing a place on the world’s life stage.

I remember started to study & do my university written work with type writers, I remember started to work with very basic computers, when I look back 15 years I feel astonished by the evolution of technology.
During University I didn’t understand colleagues that would try to take advantage of you and make you work for them in teamprojects, That did the course, copying, cheating and not being able to think for themselves or even worrying about responsabilities.

I remember buying my first record with my first salary…

I remember having strong beliefs and being faithful to them.

I remember how my feelings were always passionated and strong.

I remember not being attached to matterial things.

I remember having deep considerations about the true meaning of life and thinking that there should be more than studying, finding a job, a boyfriend, getting married, having children...

I remember never being happy enough with myself and with the world.

I remember being too much sensitive.

Something was not right. I always wanted something different. Something else. As my mother says the things that are important to me are not important to the others.

So there were many things that I could never explain and I’ll never will. Logic has its limits, but actions can express a lot about your life philosophy.

Since early age I understood I would never look for recognition, I’d never nourish my ego. But still it has been a difficult fight but now it’s the moment to announce the biggest victory of my life: the death of my ego some weeks ago on the 5th of March of 2007. I feel now in sintony with myself & with the world!

Many persons helped me with such small gestures or words that had made me think during this long hard and painful process of reaching my inner peace and my real freedom.

Someone I knew recently helped me to discover that loving yourself and the others is not enough as you are part of a wider perspective and we all need absolutely to reconnect our spirits with nature & world through unconditional love energy.

Another very special person gave me the last pieces of my puzzle, triggering my mind about the meaning of my daily routine gestures and the reasons behind them, conducting me to reflect on the meaning of the pratice of love in action in our real world...
And all this enlighted contributions made me complete officially the philosophy of the house of happiness project.. My very new professional & life project that puts together personal, community and sustainable development. Integrated knowledge & life experience for everybody!

“THE FUTURE IS NOT SOME PLACE WE ARE GOING BUT ONE WE ARE CREATING.
THE PATHS ARE NOT TO BE FOUND BUT MADE.
AND THE ACTIVITY OF MAKING THEM CHANGES BOTH MAKER AND THEIR DESTINATION.”
JOHN SCHAAR.

And this was one of the most beautiful springs of my life!

FIGHT CLUB

The fight inside me continues while I’ve been trying to land my soul and adapt to my new old life again.

Almost 2 months have past after my return but I still feel that the second person in me is not happy.

I believe as a Leonardo trainee I’ve lived all the phases and challenges I was entitled to. Also these times of changing are part of a bigger process.

Thousand ideas cross my mind but at a point I realized I was again driven away by the unsenseless rhythm of work routine…I tried to open so many doors at the same time that I almost forget to breath… A wise decision came then into my mind reminding me how time for reflexion was so important and significant during the 2nd semester of 2006 while living in Italy.
Somehow now I miss that state of mind and life quality where I could be in constant contact with nature, where I had time to cook my meals, where I could sleep, read and relax.
So in these 2 months I was almost jumping off the cliff, getting edges way from my alchemist mission in pursuit of a deepest way of being happy, and substituting my deepest thoughts and feelings by my usual spirit “everything is all right” and “I can adapt to it” philosophy.

Then I realized I was returning to the same nightmare that made me want to go to Italy, and how much decision is a missing process in my life. I’ve been living happily with things that appear on my way but hardly closing past doors or the ones that I cannot enter, as I cannot cross them all at the same time…

That made me sit down again with some of my phantoms, but out of these complex conversations I understood that they are becoming more friendly and fun. Maybe I can already say that they are becoming my spiritual guides!!!
They are helping me to understand how much in fact I did learn in the last year, how much can I do with my recent achievements, how much energy and happiness I carry with me everyday and that I shouldn’t try to make all changes at the same time because it’s not only extremely tiring but also there are some changes that you just have to let them act in yourself.

Here is a list of how many things I’ve done in 2 months after my return:

-got back to my old job at my youth association but changing roles now I’m using my public relations degree to establish a new communication strategy for Rota Jovem, I’m coordinating the team that will organize the 15th Years of the Association celebrations, I’ve used Open Space Technology in one meeting, I’m delivering some predeparture, onarrival trainings for Leonardo trainees and European volunteers, and I’ll be assuming gradually the coordination of EVS projects in my organization;
-looked for new job proposal and got it and then I had to decide what to do if changing or staying;
-I’ve had the opportunity to develop my personal development project cooperative or company, still evaluating pro’s and con’s of both options. Look for financing and partners that would like to do it with me.
-I’ve participated in a training of Indian Head Massage, so after some practice, I’ll be able to work professionally with this.
-I’ve participated in training course for Laughter Yoga facilitators, which is now giving its first steps in Portugal, so I felt somehow like a pioneer and now I’ve to decide how far do I want to go with this but it seems its going to be one of my priorities.
-I’ve returned to my reiki sharing sessions and I’m starting some classes for I’d like to use it in a deeper way with other persons
-I’ve returned to my hidrogym classes, I’ve to confess that I became a fan of the Italian method.
-I’ve done some serious research and reflexion about moving into Lisbon but I decided its not a priority and so future will tell.
-I got a new laptop and now I’ve wireless internet from home which eventually will ease my comunications and contacts worldwide.
-And on the end of February I’ll do a presentation in my organization about my experience in Calabria, I’m starting to prepare it…

Am I crazy or what? Can I work more? Is this normal? Why do I have so many interests ? What do they mean? Why I cannot dive into one ocean and feel it as mine? Why do I fear my decisions?
The main reason I fear is because I’m afraid of being free!…
Stability versus Liberty is one of the main dilemmas of humanity, but it has been one of the main ones in my life… Never truly feeling none of the extremes, but maybe the solution is about being happy by balancing these ideal situations… But then if its.. why in hell do I not feel happy ?…
Objective for 2007 is to be free of complexity in my mind and crazy daily routine rythm !!!
Bye Bye Brad Pitt, hello Edward Norton…

PLATOON

“I think now as I’m looking back we did not fought the enemy, we fought ourselves and the enemy was in us.
The war is over for me now but I always be there for the rest of my days!”- Platoon

2006 made me dive into my inner world and found out that the biggest war I face is the one I make with myself. We are nothing but mirrors reflecting our needs and emotions…

With 33 years old some people think they are going to die just like Jesus Christ or world famous artists. I felt I had to initiate a changing circle…

-I learnt so many precious things by putting my expectations to zero, by starting over in a new culture, by putting the emphasis not on doing but on the understanding of whys and moods.

-I learnt to rationalize my emotions instead of emotionalise my reasons.

-I learnt about balancing my mental, spiritual, body and emotional aspects.

-I learnt about the real simple things that make my life important.

-I’ve awaken my sense of humour.

-I’ve enjoyed how being different (myself) can be fun!

-I learnt that expressing my opinion and my emotions is good.

-I could understand where my passions and motivations lay.

-I believe in myself and my ability to move forward in quality.

-I’m responsible for my daily life decisions.

-I have new professional interests: self development project house of happiness.

But coming back home was also part of the intercultural experience process. For me it was not easy to return to the same when you feel you’ve changed so much. For a moment I asked myself if I should continue this travel to a different part of the world but the answer is simpler and basically connected to how do I travel in myself, meaning how can I use now all I’ve learnt and proceed.

Answering the how was it question was very complex, all I know is that troubles are meant to make us better not bitter and maybe for the first time in my life this was absolutely what happened.

In our complex routine we don’t have time to fully debrief the complexity of our world and to analyse our reactions. Most of the answers to our complaints are in us. I advice everybody that never had an experience of living out of own country to do it, because its absolutely revealing.
In our complex world we don’t give time for ourselves to relax, to laugh, to socialize and to really appreciate the gift of life.

Lisbon greeted me with warm rays of light, my friends greeted me with the warmth of their hearts and hugs, I got goose skin when I first walked downtown Lisbon and shared the multicultural spirit and the happiness of this season on the streets.
Cascais where I work and the district where I live greeted me with songs from the Portuguese pop band I used to work some years ago. This scenery made me recognize that my traveller’s soul belongs just to one place: Portugal.

Let 2007 give you the things you know you need and also the ones that you don’t know!

…I’m reborn!

CARO DIARIO

I’m not the kind of person to count the days to end of the calendar, I decide to do something!
Between smiles and tears, and saudades that I transform in thousand ideas for after and after taking this experience as a spiritual retreat...

In truth, when the scenery around us is aggressive and uncomfortable the only thing you can do is to work on your self esteem and unconditional love. But it’s still not easy to be alone and do it...

I arrived here in Italy with some questions in my head, among them: do I have the needed skills for developing my job; do I have the energy to give without knowing if tomorrow will be there, as in the social business your work depend on the approval of projects, and there’s never the financial security for allowing you to do a better and deeper job…; do I want to continue in this path knowing what are the conditions? Are there anyother ways for me?

When I’m on a dead end I like to make it even harder in order to see what I’m really able to do. That made me choose to come here to the isolated disadvantaged mountains of Aspromonte.
When I arrived I wrote something like this: I want to reach the top of my own mountain and from there to be able to see myself clearer at distance and simultaneously in detail.

I ended up into a completely unknown and very specific local reality: the one that these people here have to deal with, living from the predecessors heritage, that among rich and poor people for many diverse causes, choosed to bring organized crime into their lifes. A place where nowadays is difficult to establish the limit of what’s is Mafia or local culture. The system is implemented at all levels, administration, political, economical and this system is much more stronger and closer than a state called Italy.
A bright trick, this for the ones passing by not to understand where does one world starts or finishes, in a land where is important to play the smart wolf, where the culture of silence commands communication- I don’t know, I didn’t see, I didn’t hear-, where the unknown and the foreigner don’t seem to have a place, where not far from here the family with children in the school age receive money from the state to attend school –la paghetta, in this way motivating children’s education instead of easy going culture of starting to climb the stairs of the Godfather’s house.

All of this exists, and a lot more that is not said, or able to be seen, not only here in Italy but all over in many countries of Europe and the world: Life Stories of people with lack of freedom, facing unfair situations, intolerance, greed, fears, unhappiness, manipulation, conservative thinking, closed perspectives and all other social and human diseases.

A sad reality like this one, made me found in myself the answers to my initial questions and so many others that arise all throughout the process.
I have new questions to take with me now, that were impossible to have if I didn’t came here...

I discover that I can use my sensitiveness, my knowledge and my life experience focusing on the basic question behind all questions and that is:
To place unconditional love, peace and happiness in people’s life!
Soon you’ll know more about my new life project “the house of happiness”!

On the way to my orange couch, I’ll take with me:
-the view over the Etna in ebullition during night designing orange roads in the middle of the sky or in the end of the afternoon with coloured rainbow degradé on the background, seen from my terrace;
-the silence that allowed me to felt asleep and wake up to the sound of sea waves;
-the darkness that allowed me to see stars;
-the paintings and the personality of my friend Gós;
-the (in)formal conversations with Paul, Peter and Paola, and many enlightments that I had from their words;
-to see growing up smiles of Lucas and Simone (sons of Paola and Peter, with more a less 3 years and 1,5 year old respectively);
-the fabulous meals in Pentedatillo’s Degusteria sponsored by the talented hands of my friends Simona and Pascoale;
-tarantela (la vita nera) balls;
-brioche with icecream ;
-my siesta time;
-the beach for myself and the possibility of swimming on the 20th November;
-acquagym classes where i could loose 1 kilo in 1 hour;
-the friendship of Dana, one of most calm and sweet dogs I’ve ever known that made me company. This smart Dutch dog that could understand all languages!!!
-my old Piaggio, “war” companion;
-and a tree planted by myself!!!

Thanks to all the persons that made this experience possible here in Annà di Melito di Porto Salvo, Associazione Pro Pentedatillo and specially to my host organization Pame Ambro, my organization in Portugal and Ana that replaced me bravely during these 6 months, my parents (taking care of my burocracy), my family and all my old and new dear friends for the support !

For sure was a one life occasion to give me time to reflect, to open and reinforce my beliefs, myself and what I do and how do it! I can now recognize how much I’ve accomplished before coming here and I’m surely very happy to return to all of it!!!

The inner travel has modified me and it doesn’t arrive to the end with me returning home, it will continue forever…leading me and whom is around to deeper and wider places… From a highest point of “Five Fingers Mountain” I’m now able to see the world with a clearer perspective and to place myself on the next road…
Marco, I’ve opened the door!

Hello!

P.S: Nanni Moretti’s “Caro diario”, is one of my favourite italian movies- Italy seen from the Director perspective while ridding a Vespa motorbike in Rome.

CARO DIARIO

-a vista para o Etna em ebulição à noite, traçando estradas laranja no meio do céu, ou ao fim da tarde com degradé de cores do arco íris em fundo, tudo visto em primeiro plano do meu terraço;
-o silêncio que me permitia adormecer e acordar ao som das ondas do mar;
-a escuridão que me permitia ver as estrelas e a lua;
-as conversas (in)formais com os meus “colegas” Paul, Peter e Paola em que se de repente se fazia luz;
-ver crescer os sorrisos do Lucas e do Simone (os filhos da Paola e do Peter, com 3 anos e 1,5 ano de idade respectivamente );
-os fabulosos repastos calabreses da Degusteria de Pentedatillo pela mão dos meus amigos Simona e Pascoale;
-os bailes de Tarantela (ou mais correctamente La Vita Nera);
-os brioches com gelado;
-a praia só para mim, mergulhando no mar a 20 de Novembro;
-as aulas de acquagym em que se perdia 1 quilo em cada aula;
-a minha amiga Dana um dos cães mais tranquilos e meigos que conheci e que me fez bastante companhia, esta inteligente cadela holandesa que percebia todas as línguas;
-a minha velha Piaggio, companheira de guerra;

Marco, abri a porta!!!

QUO VADIS

I arrive to Naples after knowing 3 warming and charming napoliteans, Mauro, Luca and Jennifer in Berlin where I received an invitation to visit their city.

To visit Naples during this last weekend was almost like arriving earlier to Lisboa. The small narrow and hard to climb streets on the hills, coloured clothes waving on the windows, the light, the people on the streets, these were the things that remind me of Alfama or Mouraria Lisbon neighbourhoods .

This is absolutely true, it’s not the wish of arriving home sooner, many Italians had told me that before and now I confirm it! One city reminds us of the other!

Motorbykes at high velocity driven by children, many others riding without helmets, crossroads and red traffic lights don’t exist. The rule for the drivers is to move fast, the rule for the walkers is to run& find our way across the cars or just walk by the buildings on the lateral sides of the streets (that doesn’t mean sidewalks, because here they are rare) and hidding our purse on the inner side, once is better not to take the risk of a clumsy hand find it interesting; trash making small hills in the middle of the streets, abandoned buildings, poorness... This is the lively centre of Naples that Vesuvio can control from his higher perspective. It may seem strange but I like this reality as I found it normal and understandable!

Night life also reminds me of Lisboa, specially when sunday night I end up in this place where old washing machines and refrigerators are part of a Milonga (tango) ball room !

I visit Naples guided by the eyes of who lives and loves his city ( Luca, have you considered to become a tour guide, you managed also quite well in Berlin!?) I found many churches, a monument similar to "Casa dos bicos" in Lisboa (here in church version), the castle, one garden.
I drink a cold coffee nuts flavour, it’s not only divine, it’s a reason to exist as Napolitanean! We continue and we found the main big square where people celebrate the New year’s Eve, then on the town hall building we dive on the Mediterrean with an exibition about its cities and we finish after the sunset in Naples Golf, where we can see the entire city like a Christmas tree with all its beautiful lights.

The journey continues between Napolitanean pizzas, beer and presepio street* getting deeper in the real world of my brand new friends. For a moment I feel I belong to this place and I wouldn’t mind to stay here for the last 3 weeks left in Italia.
*a street full of shops that only sell the ceramic images that are part of this presepio, that basically is the recreation of Jesus birth done by the Catholics on Christmas day- a strong tradition here in Napoli.

The photos that I didn’t do, what I didn’t do, the talks I didn’t have made me want to return one day. The truth is that for the same reason I could departure forever revisiting some dozen magic souls that I had the pleasure to cross my life with in the last years.
I'm sure now that I want to continue to travel in your beautiful and unique worlds!

There should not be a reason to love!

A presto!

THE FABULOUS WORLD OF AMELIE POULIN

From the 31rst October to the 12th November I was in Berlin for visiting friends, for working and participating in training course on "Open Space tecnology". Here you can find some reflections about the city and the course!
About the city I can tell you something, but OST you have to participate in it to fully understand it so I leave you with the message I sent afterwards to my colleagues.

Berlin!
I choose west! I found a cold, calm, friendly, organized city that made me feel at home!
I felt the city breathing and the historical legacy inspiring me. Large avenues. Fusion of modern with old architecture.
The first place I visit was this “bunker” built to defend people from the atomic war. I found it interesting to see this piece of history that was never needed to be used and if it was everyone doubts about its efficiency. Curious, no? From Checkpoint Charlie and concentration camps you do not have only memories as new fascist try to burn down the concentration camp of Sachsenhausen but you can say that Berliners life nowadays seem to be faraway from the hardest moments of german history.
As in any other place in the world there are always many perspectives of the same events! I found curious to meet people to whom the falling of the wall had different meanings and impacts in their lifes!
This city full of sub worlds inside other worlds, seems to make sense altogether.
I got lost in the city as I usually like to do and just merged with its spirit!

Autumm colours, from yellow, to brown and trees letting their fruits fall into the ground.
Many people smiling and the communication happening apart from the language barrier as I don’t speak german.

I understand at that moment and once again that people are the ones who make the difference.

The night life is interesting with typical german pubs and unpredictable places were you can dance traditional european dances, alternative places were you can listen to launching of pure german rock bands (thanks Michael for taking us there!). And after these days I get to the conclusion that I wouldn’ t mind to live there!

Just for the European Citizenship yahoo group, it’s maybe interesting for you to know that I met my dear friend Stefan, you remember him? The german charismatic sense of humour in person! Although our brief meeting it was really enjoyable!

Open Space Technology Training Course in Blossin
Walking around on the streets of Berlin on the 9th, the 10th, the 11th, the 12th of November, seeing you in the corner, hearing your voice… hearing your laugher… No, it’s just somebody else reminding me of you…

On the way to this gathering I lost a plane, during the gathering I started to loose objects and to disconnect definitely from my vague notion of time and reason, I met some of my old phantoms and had nice talks with them, I met the phantom of true freedom and he let me go, I opened some doors that were closed for stupid reasons, I dived deeper in my inner lake and I found my treasures…
I got closer to you or maybe not as much as I wanted or was possible but that makes me believe that people don’t meet by chance and we’ll be connected somehow!…

In Berlin I lost my bank card in a bancomat! On my way back to Italy my luggage didn’t arrive, inside there was my Italian phone and the keys of my house in Calabria.
But I easily managed to enter in my house and a bird flied through the open window, and looked at me while searching for the way out!
In Portugal we say that when we loose something is because we didn’t really want to leave the place. And when a street bird enters your house it’s announcing good news!

This just tell me that:
You were all the right people!
Whatever happened it was what each and everyone needed!
It’s not over!
And whenever something else will happen is absolutely the right time!

5 months ago I initiated the longest open space of my life coming to the South of Italy in search for myself, my true beliefs, answers, and a new world!
I still don’t know exactly what kind of animal I am but I don’t think it’s important anylonger… For the moment I just enjoy the ride…Thanks for being part of it!…

DEAD POETS SOCIETY

28-30 October 2006

There comes a time when we need to jump over the top of the table, tear down the books and forget memorizing the latin grammar rules!... Carpe diem!... And off I went to the land where the oranges are red!

I cross Messina's Strait in the big ship, that carries trains inside, carrying me to green hills and Mountains of Sicilly!
Seen from Jonic Sea, Messina cativates me by it’s specific architecture that puts together different styles and ages, I wish to go closer into it. But this travel has already a destination!
From the harbour to the railwaystation another reality appears to me, trains with 2,5 hours late and nobody really giving the correct information. I end up taking the regional train that stopped in each and every station on the way to Catania. I travel to meet another member of my organization, Hugo Matos, also him wants to get to know the biggest vulcano in the Old Continent!
I start to see Etna halfway in Taormina and I spend the rest of the time standing up to make photos, to watch its different perspectives, to admire it!

Expecting me was a special family "Opera Papa Giovanni XXII" where Hugo does his European volunteer Service. Children and young people to whom life had made it hard at health or family level found here the Love and home protection. Among 11 persons in the house I felt immediatly hosted and in harmony. My Regards of admiration to the work of Domenico and Chiara- the parents!

I’m very happy to know that we can still find people with such a heart, specially in this part of the world!

I’m thrilled! Finally I’m going to climb up Etna. After months watching him from my balcony, during day magnificent, belissimo, at night writting down orange streets in the middle of the sky!
3313 meters high, moon landscape, grey sand, brown, cobre, black with hills of different dimensions and hundreds of crateras all around.
Walking, our feet dive in the warm earth, there’s a smell of enxofre and the wind brings back the smoke from the crateras. There’s a small cratera from where you can see lava running, a borbulhar...This must be one of the most amazing experiences that you can have in life! Unforgetable! A true psycologic orgasm according to Hugo and I agree!

Desembarco numa família especial a Obra Papa Giovanni XXIII onde o Hugo faz voluntariado.

CINEMA PARADISO

For the ones that didn’t notice before, my last posts have names of known movies. This is not by chance, from the first moment that I’ve seen Reggio Calabria from the plane I felt I was in a movie...

In September I did a journey of 12 days in the North of Italy visiting Italian and Portuguese friends. This journey made me remember of that small boy that was hidden in Cinema to see the movies and then from the technician room felt in love with the cinema itself.

How do you do a journey in Italy for 12 days leaving from Reggio Calabria?

-You need to travel in train for 14 hours (fast train that stops just a few times) to arrive in the wonderful Venezia.
-With friends or making new friends!
-With this principle: Leaving when it’s the right moment not earlier not later!

This journey was enough intense to understand that “la Bella Italia” it’s a special country, big but where more a less in 100 kilometers people change, history changes, ideologies changes and also the dialect they talk! How can the North know what’s happening to the south if there are so concern with their neighbours?
They have a very complex history! It’s a unified country of more or less 80 years. It’s a very young country but seems very very old!
People say that in Italy you can find more or less 2/3 of all the art in the world! It can be true! For me all the cities in the North are open air Museums! It’s really fascinating!

My journey has taken me from Reggio Calabria to Venezia-Vicenza-Bassano del Grapa – Vicenza - Padova- Trento – Verona.

Without programming I made a real journey through the history of Italy, although I only realised it when I arrived in Trento and I’ve heard this:

“Veneziani gran’ signori – Venezian gran gentleman
Padovani gran’ dottori – Padovan gran doctorate
Vicentini mangna gatti – Vicentini eat cats
Veronesi tutti matti. “ – Veronesian all crazy people
And this was what I saw...

Venezia is a fish! – Have a look on a map!
I didn’t want to leave Venezia, for me I could have rest there all the 12 days in this unique city. I was in the house of a friend’s friend where the atmosphere was peaceful among the students that showed me the city through their eyes and with a non touristic point of view. I was very fortunate for knowing the city from this perspective!
On my first night I received a visit from a bat, I’ve never had seen one so close to me!!
I’ve found very interesting this visit to Palazio Ducale where also for the first time I’ve visited prisions, in case the old prisions of the town!
Sadly the venezians are moving out of the town, because it’s impossible to find work, apart from restaurants, hotels or shops or even gondoliere although for this you need to be part of a gondolieri family...
There’s a prevision saying that in 50 years Venezia will be a city inhabited by tourists. I myself felt really dizzy and tired of watching so many people moving all around. It’s too much this economical exploitation! I was happy enough just walking around the belly and the eyes of this fish that were so beautiful already...
One day I expect to come back and still find the sun, the islands, the living history and the real italian venezians! Venezian people please defend Venezia!

Vicenza
The most famous drink of Venetto- Spritz – and it’s orange! WoW!
The piano played by Paolo’s mother and me feeling chicken skin!!...
This crazy italian friend with a giant heart, (that has studied the Portuguese revolution of 25th April 1974 that put down the fascism in Portugal, because he wanted to understand how can men do a peaceful revolution), has told me about Lega Nord and Padana and this actual wish of creating an independent region from the rest of Italy and also about the history that has involved his grandparents and the grandparents of his local friends.
From his house we can see the mountains that tell us war stories or about the saló republic- the last fascist resort. The mountains where today you can still find remainings of war: skeletons of soldiers, helmmets, bullets or gunpowder dust! It’s always interesting to understand how geography can influence the evolution of people and places.
With him I’ve also learned other main curiosities of this city, a place of communist resistance during the 2nd world war, where still today you can still find people interested in doing a Mussolini statue and put in a public square.
It’s beautiful to feel a person in love by his own history! Also here I could have stayed all my journey!!!
Here I’ve found young people that are devellopping the Association “Archi ragazzi” and at the same time having a lot fun doing their own music. I went to hear them play “L’ osteria popolare berica” "http://www.osteriapopolareberica/"www.osteriapopolareberica and had a lot of fun! I hope to hear these “pleasant comic musicians” in Portugal one day!

Long live Fabbrizio di Andre and the cities that start with a V!

Bassano del Grappa
The remaining holes of 2nd World War bullets in the houses close to the bridge that was burned down on purpose for stopping the passage of the german and fascists. Today the bridge is rebuilt in wood like it was before. The history is still alive in this city with a beautiful castle and wall.
It’s the ideal place to find a friend, have a nice talk about life while trying the local drink -grappa and waiting for the rain to stop to allow us to continue to see the landscape.
The rain didn’t stop but we were able to find this street where you have a row of trees with the names of the Italian soldiers that resisted in the mountains against the attacks in 2nd world war ending up their days with their heads cut by the enemies.

Although the strong and recent history a great place to eat and just be!!

Padova – a 6 hours visit!
A pleasant lunch with a new friend Riccardo Vencato that showed me in the new part of the city a strange monument to the victims of September 11th made with a burned piece of Twin Towers building!
Then a surprise visit to Xena- Centro di Scambi e Dinamiche Interculturali (partner organization of Rota Jovem- my association), I enter in the office and had a deja vu, it seemed the same of entering in Rota and see the persons in front of the computers saying “Hi, but I don’t have much time for you now!” Nevertheless I enjoyed this short visit and I’m happy for having done it, now I know a little bit of Padova and a small part of a project that had change my life!
I had time to say hi to Santo Antonio and make a intense walk while thinking about being really happy for sending people to do their internships in this great place!

Trento
In the middle of three high mountain teeths one can find a different Italy, that first was Austria, and where we can find many signs of a extremely organized city and quality of life!!

Maybe that’s why, I’ve found here:
-The best icecream!
-The best pizza ( Made by a Napolitan cooker!!)
-The best codfish with Portugal flavour!
-The best grilled of sardines (The only one in 4 months))

The history followed us, and we remembered that this was the city of the famous Trento Council, and that it was here the beautiful moment where the Church was decided that the women had soul!

I found my friend Pedro (and long life to the persons that have their names starting with a P!), that always makes me think that life can be even more beautiful if we use our hearts instead of our minds!

Verona
Once again surprised by the Arena and the romanian wall with more than 2000 years. Whenever I find monuments this old it makes me think!! I like to imagine how life was in those times and to picture myself in that scenery!
The bridges over the river and architecture of rame/cobre (i don’t know the name in english of this metal with some kind of orange pink colour) without comparison!
By chance I’ve found this activity “Giochi per strada” – “Games on the street” about traditional games in Italy and Spain for children and adults.
Saturday night ended up finding a “ World dances ball” in a nice courtyard of the city, a little bit of Andanças* without going to Portugal! Bravo!!!!
*(World dances Festival where almost every year I’m volunteer!)

After more than 3000km of travelling, I also found out:
1-The meaning of first sentence I’ve learned in Italian some years ago, that was: “Io sono qui per chiudere la finestra!“- I’m here to close the window! (Grazie Marco!). Afterall I feel I’m really closing the window of a old house and trying to open a new door for a different and if possible happier future! Maybe it was written somewhere that I had to come here in Italy to do this!

2-People with a beautiful heart like I didn’t find for a long time and I realised that you cannot live without using it.

I’ve remembered that the best things in life are the most simple ones, like balls made of soap that change colours, sizes and quantities while flying in the air! Now one simple ball of soap it’s enough to make me smile!!!!

I leave you with my favourite sentence of the moment:
The most beautiful thing is not having one thing
Is to want it after having it!

Many balls of soap for you!!!

LA VITTA É BELLA!

In life we have 2 options: live in a sad movie or in a happy movie.
In the movie we have 2 options: to play the main or the secondary role.

Summer is reaching the end, the temperature is lower and rain is falling. I’m on the way to Venice to visit friends and rest from the 6 different activities that I went through since I arrived.

During these 2 months and a half a lot of people asked me what was I missing the most?
I always answered : people, friends and family.
How good it was to receive your messages of support and saudade (it’s impossible to translate this word into English!) It’s good to feel that some people are missing me!
Thinking deeply about how I dealt with difference, I must confess that it was hard for me to accept this reality and that it was hard to relate with it. But if I think properly I’ve already earned a lot:

-A new vision of life: Life is difficult everywhere! In the end conditions don’t matter, all it matters is what we are able to do with that.
-I’ve a lot to give, but I need to believe and to know where exactly do I want to go.
-This summer I knew hundreds of persons some of them had the right smile, the right gesture, the assertive word, the right hug on the exact moment that I was needing it and although it was temporally it was worthwhile. The world is too small and the seeds of friendships can give very good fruits.
-I learned one very beautiful language!
-I live now 2 minutes far from the beach, in a house with a terrace and a beautiful view over the sea.
-I have the opportunity to reflect upon what i’ve done in the past and decide what do I want to do in the future. Thousand ideas in my box, the will to continue and to discover what’s the following step!
Today nothing but thanking for my happy life, that allowed me already to fullfill some dreams and that allows me to do what I like and what I want at professional level. And overall that allows me to simultaneously try to be a better person everyday.
Again the challenge of building something starting from scratch. The courage arises from these moments of publishing one more post in my blog, where I share with you my doubts, my emotions, and by doing it I feel closer to my tribe. Certainly, from now on, since I took the direction of this movie it will be at least “La vitta è bela!

A VIDA É BELA!
